# The Queen at 80

(Photo from BBC)

Today is the Queen's Birthday! and boy, she looked lovely in pink!

A friend and his wife has gone to Windsor to (hopefully) see the Queen, we did not manage to go, but were equally excited for this event!

Happy Birthday Queen!

Lovely picture and a gorgeous colour! We in Australia though have mixed feelings about the whole royal thing. I know the Queen has worked hard all her life but hereditary status and wealth - well, I do wonder about that one.
Actually she looks like my Mum - as of ten years ago!

Wow, your mum looks like her! I wonder if they saw each other, what would be the situation, hehe.. Mother, Queen? Mother Queen? @_@... :-)

I understand the mixed feelings about the royal thingy. Well, a lot of commonwealth countries have different sentiments about the monarchy, the reign of the GB in the past and its legacy...

but at the same time, it's alwys fun to see a birthday, isn't it? :-)

I have no mixed emotions about the Queen (and the entire House of Windsor). Despicable lot.

wow panda! such strong emotion. hehe u seem more republic..

in what terms of despicable i wonder.. the many scandals? the monarch? the power fight among the royals?...

I think one of the reasons the British (English, at least) are so passionate about the Queen is that her intended replacement is kind of a scary thought...

Not strong emotion, YD - cold assessment. I won't take up space on your lovely blog with the whole laundry list. Here are some key words - criminal enterprise, war profiteering, insider trading, genocide.

To believe that the queen is nice old lady who happens to be a titular head of state with little real power or relevance would be akin to thinking that the character Don Corleone in the Godfather was just a nice Catholic family man who happened to be in the olive oil business. The so-called "Windsors" make the Corleones look like amateurs.

Someday we will sit on my lanai and discuss the whole sordid business over a Fiji Bitter or two.

Oh dear! Panda, such strong emotions but an assessment some in Oz would agree with. I don't go that far. Anyway, a burst of music happened as I was reading, so vinaka for that.
What do ya think of Rolf Harris' portrait of Ma'am? He gives her his teeth I think, and at last the gloves are off Ma'am and no wonder she hides them! Those blue veins.
She's occasionally an ordinary elderly woman, someone's grandma - until she sees horses racing!
